Do we owe Obama?

First let me confess, though I secretly prayed for his success, I doubted the possibility that Senator Obama would become the President of the most powerful nation in the world. I looked at America’s history of non-tolerance, it’s propensity for manipulating outcomes and it’s covert methods of fostering racial division. I listened to the media, both sides. I cringed on hearing the venom in Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Curtis Sliwa and “Pastor Manning”. I dissected the now inflamed comments of Reverend Wright. I reminisced of the darkness that enveloped the Caribbean sky on that sad day when John F. Kennedy was murdered. I saw visions of Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Medgar Evers. One ardent supporter told me ,Obama is God sent. Maybe he is. Then it happened, the greatest upset in the history of the world. Obama is President.
Through the streets of Brooklyn I marvel at the brisk Obama trade, T-shirts, buttons, calendars, even a CD. Now I ask myself, are we as black people aware of what we owe this man who put his life and the safety of his family on the line. Do we owe him? Yes we do! We owe him our unmovable support. He has given our children the proof that they can. We need to highlight him to our young men and women. Our behavior and attitude towards each other need to be “Obamanized”. Yes my people, we need to uplift and help each other. This is what we have been crying for. What are we going to do with it?
Do you find this valuable?
